How we work

A sequenced engagement model designed to de-risk every stage.

Embedded AI solutions, built through a four-stage sequence: Readiness, Build, Operate, Expand. Each stage funds the next. Each stage has a defined exit.

Embedded solutions

What we mean by "embedded."

Embedded means the AI lives inside the systems your business already depends on. Not a separate portal. Not a tool the team has to remember to open. Not a model that runs in a sandbox and never makes it into the workflow.

Concretely: we integrate with your CRM, your DMS, your TMS, your data warehouse, your case management system - whatever the operator is already using at the point of decision. The model shows up where the work happens.

This is harder than building a standalone tool. It is also why these solutions survive the first quarter instead of dying in a procurement review.

The four-stage sequence

Readiness → Build → Operate → Expand.

  1. 01

    4-6 weeks · paid

    Readiness

Data and process audit. De-risks downstream work; surfaces fast wins.

Most AI engagements fail in the first 30 days because nobody confirmed the operational reality before scoping the build. Readiness is a paid audit of the data, the processes, and the systems the future solution will live inside. It produces a short report and a defensible build scope, or a recommendation to not proceed.

Typical buyer: COO, CFO, CDO, or equivalent.

  2. 02

    typically 8-14 weeks

    Build

Deploy the first use case at one part of the business. Prove it.

A working solution in one part of the business, integrated with the systems that already exist there. Not a sandbox. Not a slide. Defined by an outcome metric agreed in the Readiness phase.

Typical buyer: Operating leader for the chosen function.

  3. 03

    ongoing

    Operate

Keep the solution working. Client-owned, or Genitive-operated, depending on the engagement.

Default: client owns and operates the solution, supported by Genitive on an as-needed basis. Alternative: Genitive operates the solution, typical for larger engagements with proprietary tooling. We do not commit to one model in marketing - the right choice depends on the engagement.

Typical buyer: Same operating leader plus IT and procurement.

  4. 04

    as-warranted

    Expand

Template the playbook across the business.

Once the first use case has run for a quarter, the learnings template into adjacent use cases. This is where the unit economics of embedded AI actually start to compound - and where many firms stop because they treated the first engagement as a one-off.

    Typical buyer: Sponsor from Readiness.

Why this sequence works

Each stage funds the next.

The Readiness phase is paid because it has to be - the report it produces is the contract for the Build phase, and giving it away guarantees we underinvest in it. The Build phase delivers one working solution because one working solution defeats ten plausible roadmaps. The Operate phase makes the solution durable. The Expand phase is where the economics start to compound - and it only works because the first three stages built the trust.

What we don't do

Where we draw the line.

  • We don't ship slideware. Strategy is part of every engagement, but the deliverable is a working solution, not a recommendation deck.

  • We don't recommend AI for problems that don't need it. The cheapest, most defensible solution is often a workflow change. We will tell you when that is the answer.

  • We don't bill for time we don't think will create value. If we don't believe the Build phase will pay back, we won't propose it.

  • We don't take on engagements without a named operational sponsor. Without one, the solution will not survive contact with the business.

Start with Readiness.

Most engagements begin with a 30-minute call to scope the Readiness phase. We will tell you honestly whether we think there is something here to build.
